It is possible to stack grant funding. Candidly, this requires a high level of funding expertise – this isn’t somewhere you want to make a mistake! Stacking rules are source-specific and generally stacked funds cannot come from the same source. Failure to abide by the following rules can result in the loss of one or more funding opportunities:
- Stacked funds must come from different sources if being used on the same project, i.e. one federal and one provincial source, or one provincial and one private source.
- Secured funding cannot exceed program-specific contribution limits, i.e. a program coverage limit could be 75% of total project cost, or up to 100% allowing you to stack a 75% coverage and 25% coverage grant.
Confused? Yah, we don’t blame you. Our best advice: if you’re not sure, don’t do it … and / or ask a pro! (PS – an intelligent stacking tool may or may not be coming soon … stay tuned!)
